2017 calendar with North Korea’s Air Koryo flight crew aroused huge interest online. One of the calendars was obtained by Sputnik. It looks nothing like the previous editions, which focused on North Korean tour scenery and tourist sights.

The outfits of the lovely ladies are quite surprising, too – short skirts and black heels don’t quite correlate with what you usually expect to see in North Korea.

In July 2012, the North Korean leader ordered Air Koryo, the state-owned national flag carrier airline, to change the flight attendants’ uniforms “to adhere do the demands of the new century” and also to improve the quality of airline meals.

Air Koryo discarded Soviet-era outfits – dowdy red uniforms – in 2013. Flight meals were changed from burgers to gimbap, a traditional dish made of steamed rice with various fillings, wrapped in dried seaweed rolls.
